What are e-Readers?
E-readers are devices or computer programs used for reading electronic books (e-books). The most popular devices include the iPad, Amazon Kindle and Barnes & Noble NOOK, however, the Sony Readers, iPhone, iTouch, and many other tablet and mobile devices also support e-reading.
What are e-Books?
E-books are editions of books, plays or other publications in a digital format. Common e-book file types include .epub, .xhtml, .mobi and .azw. At StageReads, we code in .xhtml format, which is easily convertible into .epub format (for most e-Readers) and into the .mobi format (for the Kindle Reader). The .xhtml format also offers an array of interactive capabilities that are just now appearing on the e-book market. For plays, this interactive feature will change the landscape of play reading for generations to come.
How can I subscribe?
StageReads Periodical is available for subscription through the Zinio App, and will soon be available through the StageReads app as well. When you subscribe, you’ll receive a new play every other month, directly to your e-reading device. Download the Zinio App for free and you can also read the StageReads Periodical on your Web Browser, PC, Mac, iPhone, iPad, BlackBerry, or Android Phone.
Why should I publish through StageReads.com?
When it comes to plays and poetry, formatting is key. Most services auto-convert your files into e-book format for publication, which means that important formatting is lost in the process. StageReads pays special attention to your work, hand-coding fixes to retain as much of your original formatting as possible. Furthermore, our knowledge of new trends in the industry ensure that we will push the limits of e-play capabilities, providing richer content as more devices support it.
StageReads also has a different mission from most publishers: we aren’t in this to just make a buck on your creativity. We want to become an advocate for you, the playwright, by working every day to get your plays into the right hands. Our industry program identifies and reaches out specifically to theatre and film professionals, working to put your script at the top of their piles.
Does StageReads publish musicals and short plays?
Yes! We don’t believe that only full length plays deserve to be read. We embrace short plays, musicals, experimental and other theatrical works in our effort to mobilize playwrights. New technologies will soon allow us to create enhanced e-books that will revolutionize how we read musicals. You can be sure that StageReads will be among the first to adopt these new e-book publishing features for you.
I want to publish my play with StageReads. What are my options?
